EDUC 305 - IEP Content and Secondary Transitions

(3 credits)
The focus of this course is on the content and development of a legally correct IEP.  Students will review IDEA requirements regarding the referral and evaluation process, the IEP, placement decisions and timelines.  Special consideration will be given to the transition component of the IEP.  Assessment, community and classroom based instruction, and progress monitoring will also be addressed.  The importance of collaboration among the student, family, agencies, and the school team will be explored. Students will visit the Pennsylvania Office for Dispute Resolution website and will research and report on a hearing officer decision.  This course fulfills all of the PDE Special Education candidate competencies for Secondary Transition. Students are required to complete 8 hours of field work under the supervision of a special education teacher.  Prerequisites:   and  .
