(4 credits)

Turbine Engines

Lecture:

Turbine engine operating principles/theory of operation. Types of turbine engines. Turbine engine construction and internal components. Bleed air systems. Auxiliary power unit. Turbine engine performance and monitoring. Turbine engine troubleshooting, maintenance, and inspection procedures. Procedures required after the installation of a turbine engine. Causes for turbine engine performance loss. Storage and preservation. Turbine engine adjustment and testing. Operation of a turbine engine. Performing maintenance on a turbine engine. Actions in the event of a turbine engine fire. Foreign object damage.

Lab:

Identify different turbine compressors. Identify different types of turbine engine blades. Identify components of turbine engines. Map airflow

direction and pressure changes in turbine engines. Locate the installation or removal procedures for a turbine engine. Inspect a combustion liner. Perform turbine engine inlet guide vane and compressor blade inspections. Identify damaged turbine engine blades. Identify causes for turbine engine performance loss. Inspect the first two stages of a turbine fan or compressor for foreign object damage. Remove and install a fuel nozzle in a turbine engine. Locate the procedures for the adjustment of a fuel control unit. Locate and explain the procedure for trimming a turbine engine.

This class consists of 2 lessons and 3 labs.
