The Department of Military Science teaches leadership training that students can apply throughout their careers, no matter what their majors. Military Science activities stimulate self-discipline, develop responsibility, promote personal integrity, enhance the value of a liberal arts education, and develop leadership qualities. Coursework consists of one course each semester and a summer camp between sophomore and junior, or junior and senior, years. No formal commitment is necessary until after the sophomore year. All Military Science credits count toward graduation. Students that complete the program and graduate from Saint Francis University will earn a baccalaureate degree in their major concentration with a minor in Military Science, and can earn a commission as a second lieutenant (2LT) in the United States Army serving either full-time on Active Duty or part-time with the United States Army Reserve or the Army National Guard. Commissioned officers serve in one of over twenty-four professional officer career fields including Military Intelligence, Military Police, Signal, Army Law (Judge Advocate General), Medical Service (to include Nursing), the Corps of Engineers, the Finance Corps, the Adjutant General’s Corps, the Chemical Corps, and others. Descriptions of all the various career fields can be found at http://www.goarmy.com/careers-and-jobs/become-an-officer/army-officer-jobs.html
