Program Description:
The Chemistry major follows a curriculum that helps students acquire a strong foundation in basic concepts and principles of modern chemistry while gaining an appreciation of chemistry’s central role in society. All courses are taught and all research is facilitated by faculty members who are generous with their time and knowledge. Students can expect individual attention in their small lecture and laboratory classes. The course work is designed to help the student develop the critical thinking, problem-solving, laboratory, computer, data acquisition and analysis, and research skills needed to be successful in their future endeavors.
For the Nanotechnology Concentration, students spend a semester at the Pennsylvania State University Center for Nanotechnology Education and Utilization (CNEU). At this facility, students will complete six Nanotechnology courses designed to allow them to gain a hands-on experience with nanofabrication manufacturing technology. Courses will include safety and equipment overviews, basic nanotechnology processes, cutting edge nanotech applications, and modern characterization techniques.
Students are considered Saint Francis University students for enrollment verification, financial aid, and other standard reporting and accounting purposes. Participating students must enroll in the 6 courses for 18 credits and will be assigned an SFU supervising faculty member. However, it is the student’s responsibility to secure housing in the PSU/State College area. Students pay the tuition for the Capstone Semester (18 credits) to SFU according to its current published tuition and fee schedule, but students are also responsible for applicable PSU fees. Tuition discounts or remission due to student’s or a parent/legal guardian’s employment at SFU do not qualify for the Capstone Semester and are not accepted.
