Program Description:
The Music and Wellness Minor, designed for any student regardless of prior formal musical training, allows students to explore the connection between music, mindfulness, and well-being. It also provides opportunities to discover ways to lead evidence-based music and wellness techniques with others.
This minor is a good match for any musically interested student who will be directly affecting the well-being of other people including (but not limited to) those majoring in Health Sciences, Education, Psychology, Sociology, the Humanities and Social Work.

Choose 3 Music Foundation Credits from the following courses:
Choose 3 Applied Music credits from the following courses:
(MUS 131, 141, 151, and 161 taken for 1 credit and repeatable up to three times each) - MUS 131 - Applied Voice
- MUS 141 - Applied Hand Drumming
- MUS 151 - Applied Piano
- MUS 161 - Applied Guitar

Comparable private lesson hours on other instruments may be substituted to fulfill the
Applied Music requirement. These hours must be accrued during your time at SFU and
only with permission of minor program director.

Auditions are NOT required for entry into applied music lessons. Beginners are always
welcome.

Applied music lessons that are taken more than one time are set-up to be progressive in
nature so that a student may continue to build his/her skills on the instrument with each
semester of lessons.
