Program Description:

The Philosophy program at Saint Francis University is focused on deepening a student’s love of wisdom. While pursuing the deepest truths through a development of natural reason, students can expect to hone skills in critical thinking, problem solving, reading comprehension, and communicative clarity, among other practical benefits.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of the minor, students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate a grasp of the major philosophical questions as they relate to contemporary problems and issues;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the basic techniques and principles of logic and critical reasoning (i.e., how to construct, critically analyze, and assess arguments; how to construct counterarguments; fallacies of reasoning);
  • Demonstrate the ability to articulate in writing and speech the practice of good argumentation and philosophical debate
