Program Description:

Environmental engineering involves the application of the principles of science and mathematics to the protection of human health, preservation of ecosystem function, and stewardship of natural resources. In the Civil Engineering Minor, students take specialized course work focusing on applications of Civil Engineering in the context of Environmental Engineering. Focus is on fundamental properties of engineered and natural materials with applications for construction and geotechnical design.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of the program, students will have:

  • an ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
  • an ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare
  • an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
