Program Description:

The Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Aviation Maintenance Management is a degree-completion program designed for Aviation Maintenance Technicians and graduates of Associate of Applied Science programs in aviation maintenance. The program builds upon FAA-aligned aviation maintenance coursework and integrates upper-division study in leadership, management, business, and organizational behavior. 

All aviation maintenance coursework is delivered through the existing AMT curriculum and remains subject to FAA regulations and Airman Certification Standards. All non-aviation coursework is delivered online through the Division of Professional Studies using established Organizational Leadership and business courses. No new courses are created for this program. 

Student Learning Outcomes:

Learning Goals: 

  • Apply aviation maintenance knowledge in organizational, supervisory, and management contexts.
  • Apply leadership and management principles to aviation maintenance operations and workforce environments.
  • Integrate ethical decision-making, regulatory awareness, and strategic thinking in aviation maintenance management roles. 

Students will attain this knowledge through upper-division coursework delivered through the Division of Professional Studies, emphasizing applied leadership, organizational behavior, business fundamentals, and strategic management. The BAS builds upon FAA-regulated AMT technical training and prepares students for advancement into supervisory and management positions within aviation maintenance organizations.

Objectives: 

Students will develop a comprehensive foundation that enables them to transition from technical aviation maintenance roles into leadership and management positions while maintaining compliance with regulatory and organizational standards. 

1. Students will be able to apply leadership theories and management principles within aviation maintenance environments. 

2. Students will be able to analyze organizational structures, workforce dynamics, and labor-management relationships relevant to aviation maintenance operations. 

3. Students will be able to interpret and apply financial, economic, and analytical concepts to operational decision-making. 

4. Students will be able to demonstrate effective communication, professionalism, and ethical leadership aligned with Franciscan values. 

5. Students will be able to integrate safety culture, regulatory awareness, and risk management principles into leadership decisions. 

6. Students will be able to evaluate operational challenges and propose strategic solutions within aviation maintenance organizations. 

7. Students will be able to synthesize technical expertise and management education to support organizational effectiveness and workforce development. 

Admission Requirements:

All programs through Division of Professional Studies operate on a rolling admission basis. Students with prior college credit must have at least a 2.0 GPA (C average) to be considered for admission to the University. Those with no prior college coursework must have a high school diploma or GED with average grades of a C or higher and may need to enroll in college readiness courses to determine their level of knowledge. 

Individuals interested in applying for admission to any undergraduate program offered through the Division of Professional Studies must submit the following materials:

Graduation Requirements:

A candidate for graduation must satisfy the following requirements: 

  • Complete all requirements for an approved program of study; =
  • Complete the minimum number of credits (124 for a bachelor’s degree; 64 for an associate’s degree); 
  • Repeat for an acceptable passing grade any course required for the major in which the grade of “F” has been received; 
  • Complete the last 30 credits for the degree at SFU; 
  • Achieve a cumulative grade point average of 2.00 or better in all courses taken at SFU; 
  • Achieve a cumulative grade point average of 2.00 or better in all major or collateral requirements; 
  • Satisfy the requirements of the General Education core curriculum; 
  • Satisfy the capstone requirement as specified by the major department(s); 
  • Submit a completed Application for Degree form at least one semester prior to graduation date; and 
  • Satisfy financial obligations to the University. 

The Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Aviation Maintenance Management establishes a degree-completion pathway for Aviation Maintenance Technicians seeking advancement into supervisory and leadership roles. Aviation maintenance technical instruction is delivered through the existing FAA-aligned AMT curriculum, while upper-division coursework is drawn from established online offerings within the Division of Professional Studies. The program enhances student retention and supports workforce development.
