PUBH 110 - Concepts of Health and Disease (3 credits) This course will provide an introduction to contemporary concepts in human health and disease. The course will begin with a brief introduction to historical theories of health and disease, foundational elements of epidemiology, and basic concepts of biomedical science. The student will learn the causes, impacts and treatment of infectious and non-infectious diseases, the nation’s most prevalent chronic conditions and how they drive rising healthcare costs. The student will learn the differences in teaching and presenting preventive public health information to the public versus scientific information to health professionals through exploring several projects. Prerequisite: Spring.
