AVMT 102 - General Group II: Aircraft Drawings / Weight and Balance

(1 credit)

Aircraft Drawings

Lecture:

Drawings, blueprints, sketches, charts, graphs, and system schematics, including commonly used lines, symbols, and terminology. Repair or alteration of an aircraft system or component(s) using drawings, blueprints, or system schematics to determine whether it conforms to its type design. Inspection of an aircraft system of component(s) using drawings, blueprints, or system schematics. Terms used in conjunction with aircraft drawings, blueprints, or system schematics. Specifications for design of alterations and repairs. Drawings, blueprints, sketches, charts, graphs, and system schematics, including commonly used lines, symbols, and terminology. Inspection of an aircraft system of component(s) using drawings, blueprints, or system schematics. Terms used in conjunction with aircraft drawings, blueprints, or system schematics. Interpretation of plus or minus tolerances as depicted on aircraft drawings. Applicability of the drawing or schematic to the particular aircraft by model and serial number. Identification of the current version and applicability of drawing being used. Drawings, blueprints, sketches, charts, graphs, and system schematics, including commonly used lines, symbols, and terminology.

Lab:

Identify the meaning of lines and symbols used in an aircraft. Interpret dimensions used in an aircraft drawing. Identify change on an aircraft drawing. Determine material requirements from an aircraft drawing. Interpret graphs and charts. Draw a sketch of a repair or alteration.

This class consists of 3 lessons and 3 labs.

Weight and Balance

Lecture:

Weight and balance terminology. Purpose for weighing an aircraft. Procedures for calculation of the following: arm, positive or negative moment, center of gravity, or moment index. Purpose and application of weight and CG limits. Purpose of determining. Aerodynamic effect of CG that is forward or aft of CG limits. Aerodynamic and performance effects of weight in excess of limits. Weighing procedures including the general preparations for weighing, with emphasis on aircraft weighing area considerations. Determine proper empty weight configuration. Jacking an aircraft. Situations and conditions when jacking an aircraft. Aircraft weighing procedures. Use of scales. Procedures for calculation of the following: arm, positive or negative moment, center of gravity, or moment index. Adverse loading considerations and how to calculate if adverse loading causes an out-of-limit condition. Proper ballast placement.

Lab:

Research and explain the procedures for weighing and aircraft. Check aircraft weighing scales for calibration. Identify tare items. Locate weight and balance information. Locate datum. Perform weight and balance calculations. Calculate ballast weight shift and required weight location. Compute forward and aft loaded CG limit. Compute the empty weight and empty weight CG of an aircraft. Calculate the moment of an item of equipment. Locate weight and balance placarding and limitation requirements for an aircraft. Calculate the change needed to correct an out of balance condition. Determine an aircraft’s CG range using aircraft specifications, TCDS, and aircraft listings. Calculate weight and balance for an aircraft after an equipment change. Create a maintenance record for a weight and balance change. Revise an aircraft equipment list after equipment change. Calculate a weight change and complete required records.

This class consists of 3 lessons and 3 labs.
