AVMT 202 - Airframe Group II: Aircraft Fuel Systems / Airframe Inspections

Aircraft Fuel Systems

Lecture:

Fuel system types. Fuel system components, including filters, and selector valves. Aircraft fuel tanks/cells. Characteristics of fuel types. Fuel quantity indication. Fuel system contamination Fuel system types. Fuel flow. Fuel transfer, fueling, and defueling. Fuel jettisoning/dump systems. Fuel system maintenance and inspection. Fuel system maintenance. Fuel spills. Fuel system maintenance requiring fuel tank entry. Defueling aircraft.

Lab:

Inspect, check, troubleshoot, or repair a fuel system. Inspect a metal, bladder, or integral fuel tank. Troubleshoot and repair aircraft fuel system. Drain fuel system sump(s). Service a fuel systems strainer. Locate fuel system operating instructions. Locate fuel system inspection procedures. Inspect a fuel selector valve. Inspect and check manually-operated fuel valves for proper operation and leaks. Troubleshoot a fuel valve problem. Inspect a fuel quantity indicating system. Troubleshoot fuel pressure warning system. Locate troubleshooting procedures for fuel temperature systems. Remove and install a fuel quantity transmitter. Troubleshoot fuel quantity indicating system. Locate fuel system crossfeed procedures. Locate fuel system required placards. Locate fuel system defueling procedures.

Airframe Inspections

Lecture:

Inspection requirements under 14 CFR part 91. Maintenance recordkeeping requirements under 14 CFR part 43. Requirements for complying with ADs. Identification of life-limited parts and their replacement interval. Use of FAA approved data. Compliance with service letters, service bulletins, instruction for continued airworthiness, or ADs. CFRs applicable to inspection and airworthiness. Interpretation of inspection instructions which can lead to over or under maintenance being performed. Selection and use of checklists and other maintenance publications. Maintenance record documentation. Special inspections. Corrosion types and identification. Visual inspection and where to apply it. Performing radiographic inspections.

Lab:

Perform an airframe inspection, including a records check. Perform a portion of a 100-hour inspection in accordance with 14 CFR part 43. Enter results of a 100-hour inspection in a maintenance record. Provide a checklist for conducting a 100-hour inspection. Determine if any additional inspections are required during a particular 100-hour inspection. Determine compliance with a specific AD. Inspect seat and seatbelt including TSO markings.
