AVMT 208 - Airframe Group VIII: Water and Waste Systems / Ice and Rain Control Systems / Rotorcraft Fundamentals / Airframe Fire Protection Systems (2 credits) Water and Waste Systems
Lecture:
Potable water system components and operation. Lavatory waste system components and operation. Inspection and servicing requirements for water and waste systems. Servicing lavatory waste systems, including use of safety equipment.
Lab:
Locate and explain the procedures for servicing a lavatory waste system. Locate and explain the procedures for servicing a potable water system.

Ice and Rain Control Systems
Lecture:
Aircraft icing causes/effects. Ice detection systems. Aircraft and powerplant anti-ice systems and components. De-ice systems and components. Wiper blade, chemical, and pneumatic bleed air rain control systems. Anti-icing and de-icing system maintenance. Environmental conditions that degrade vision. System testing or maintenance. Storage and handling of deicing fluids. Selection and use of cleaning materials for heated windshields.
Lab:
Inspect and operationally check pitot-static anti-ice system. Troubleshoot an electrically-heated pitot system. Inspect thermal anti-ice systems. Inspect and operationally check deicer boot. Clean a pneumatic deicer boot. Inspect and operationally check an electrically-heated windshield. Locate and explain the procedures for inspecting a pneumatic rain removal
system. Locate and explain the procedures for inspecting an electrically-operated windshield wiper system. Locate and explain the procedures for replacing blades on a windshield wiper system.

Rotorcraft Fundamentals
Lecture:
Rotorcraft aerodynamics. Flight controls. Transmissions. Design, type, and operation of rotor systems. Rotor blade functions and construction. Rigging requirements for rotary wing aircraft. Helicopter skid shoe and tube inspection. Rotor vibrations, track, and balance. Drive system vibrations and inspection. Working around helicopter blades during ground operations. Ground handling procedures. Ground operations and functional tests. Maintenance and inspection of rotorcraft systems and components.
Lab:
Locate components of a helicopter rotor system. Locate helicopter rotor blade track and balance procedures. Locate and explain procedures needed to rig helicopter controls. Locate and explain procedures to track and balance a rotor system.
This class consists of 2 lessons and 2 labs.
Airframe Fire Protection Systems
Lecture:
Types of fires and aircraft fire zones. Overheat and fire detection and warning systems. Overheat and fire detection system maintenance and inspection. Smoke and carbon monoxide detection systems. Types of fire extinguishing agents. Types of fire extinguishing systems. Fire extinguishing system maintenance and inspection requirements. Maintenance on circuits associated with fire bottle squibs. Use of PPEs when working on or testing fire extinguishing systems. Fire extinguishing agents.
Lab:
Troubleshoot an aircraft fire detection or extinguishing system. Identify maintenance procedures for fire detection and extinguishing systems and system components. Inspect a smoke and toxic gas detection system. Inspect a carbon monoxide detector. Locate and explain the procedures for checking a smoke detection system. Locate and explain the procedures for inspecting an overheat detection system. Inspect fire detection/protection system. Perform operational check of fire detection/protection system. Inspect a continuous loop type fire detection system. Determine proper container pressure for an installed fire extinguisher system. Identify maintenance procedures for fire detection and extinguishing systems and system components. Inspect fire protection system cylinders and check for hydrostatic test date. Perform operational check of fire detection/protection system. Inspect fire extinguishing agent bottle discharge cartridge.
