EDUC 527 - Autism Spectrum Disorders (3 credits) This is an introductory course on Autistic Spectrum Disorders that will focus on the range of behaviors, characteristics and educational implications of students on the Autism Spectrum. Focus will be on ABA based teaching interventions in the classroom and natural environment teaching (NET). Areas of communication, social skills, and stereotypical behaviors will be examined. Recognition of, and intervention for co-morbid conditions such as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Anxiety Disorder will be examined. Family relationships and long-term educational planning will be addressed. Students will complete twenty hours of field experience in an area school or educational setting. Required clearances will be needed to participate in field experience.
