AVI 220 - Aviation Weather (3 credits) This course provides students with comprehensive knowledge of meteorological principles and weather phenomena as they relate to aviation operations. Students will examine atmospheric structure, weather systems, cloud formation, precipitation, visibility, turbulence, icing conditions, and severe weather patterns. The course emphasizes practical application of meteorological knowledge for flight planning, safety decision-making, and risk assessment. Topics include weather observation and reporting systems, forecasting methods, weather radar interpretation, pilot weather reports, and the use of modern weather technology. Students will learn to interpret weather charts, terminal area forecasts, and other aviation weather products essential for safe flight operations. Prerequisites: AVI 101 Introduction to the Aviation Industry
