AVI 221 - Aerodynamics

(3 credits)
This course provides students with fundamental knowledge of the principles governing flight and aircraft performance. Students will examine the basic theories of aerodynamics including Bernoulli’s principle, Newton’s laws of motion, airfoil design, and the four forces of flight. The course covers subsonic and supersonic flight regimes, boundary layer theory, drag and lift generation, aircraft stability and control, and performance calculations. Topics include wing design characteristics, high-lift devices, stall phenomena, center of gravity effects, and the relationship between aerodynamic principles and aircraft design. Students will apply mathematical concepts to solve aerodynamic problems and analyze aircraft performance data through practical exercises and case studies.  Prerequisites: AVI 101 Introduction to the Aviation Industry
