Environmental Engineering, Ecological Engineering Concentration, B.S.

Environmental engineering involves the application of the principles of science and mathematics to the protection of human health, preservation of ecosystem function, and stewardship of natural resources. The environmental engineering program at SFU prepares students in the fundamental theory of environmental engineering as well as in the practical applications. The curriculum includes substantial hands-on experiences in both field work and laboratory experimentation. Student-led design projects are incorporated throughout the four years of study with a culminating capstone design experience in the senior year.

Ecological engineering is a growing sub-discipline of environmental engineering that concerns using ecological processes to accomplish engineering goals. Examples of ecological engineering in practice in include treatment wetlands, low impact development practices, and green infrastructure. The concentration in ecological engineering is built on top of the environmental engineering program with two additional required courses at the 400-level.
