The Biochemistry major is an interdisciplinary program offered jointly by the Biology Department and the Chemistry Department. Biochemists study the chemical processes that occur in living cells as well as the structure and function of proteins, lipids, carbohydrates and nucleic acids. The Pre-Medicine concentration give students a solid background in the fundamental principles of chemistry and biology to prepare them for medical school. Job shadowing/internships during the summer following freshman and sophomore years is greatly encouraged.
The Saint Francis University Chemistry program has been approved by the American Chemical Society to offer ACS certified degrees. ACS may be contacted at 1155 Sixteenth Street, NW, Washington, DC 20036; (202)872-4600; www.acs.org.
