Program Description:

The Aviation Maintenance Technician Program is a 21-month certificate program that provides the necessary training required by the Federal Aviation Administration to test for an Airframe and Powerplant “A&P Certificate” License. This program is a hands-on technical program that provides a strong foundation in mechanical and electrical knowledge as it applies to aircraft. These highly transferrable skills are not limited to aircraft and can be used in a variety of different fields and disciplines. In addition to meeting the general university admission requirements, certain physical requirements must be met in order to achieve hours in portions of the program as well as passing practical tests.  

Graduates from this program will be prepared to enter the workforce as an entry level Aviation Maintenance Technician assuming they pass testing to receive their A&P license.   

Student Learning Outcomes:

Learning Goals:  

  • Apply knowledge of general classes as they relate to aviation systems.  
  • Apply knowledge from classes and perform Airframe maintenance proficiently.  
  • Apply knowledge from classes and perform Powerplant maintenance proficiently.  

Students will attain the knowledge through lectures and labs to pass the licensing test at the end of this 21-month program. Students will also learn everything listed through ACS standards as it is required by the FAA.  

Objectives:  

Students will have a solid foundation for every element found in ATA chapters which are standard aircraft maintenance sections. Enough so that they will pass their oral, written, and practical tests which will grant them their A&P License.  

  1. Students will be able to complete assigned tasks and projects on airframe and powerplant systems using tools.  
  2. Students will be able to apply airframe theories and concepts to hands-on projects.  
  3. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of operation, inspection, servicing, repair, and troubleshooting procedures for aircraft airframe and powerplant systems.  
  4. Students will be able to inspect aircraft systems to identify defects.  
  5. Students will be able to navigate manuals to find required documentation to repair aircraft.  
  6. Students will be able to apply theories to different engines and engine systems.  
  7. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of operation, inspection, servicing, repair, and troubleshooting procedures for aircraft airframe and powerplant systems.
