Program Description:
This affiliated program is referred to as the “3+3/ 3+4” (B.S./ Pharm.D.) Program in Pharmacy. The Program is an early-entry pre-pharmacy program that will give students the opportunity to complete their pharmacy education in two phases: Phase I consists of the first three years of undergraduate education at Saint Francis; Phase II consists of the remaining three years of pharmacy education at LECOM’s School of Pharmacy, Erie Campus or four years at the Bradenton, FL Campus. The number of positions reserved for Saint Francis students will be determined by mutual agreement between Saint Francis and the LECOM School of Pharmacy.
Students will be admitted to the SFU Phase (Phase I) of the program based upon the following criteria:

The LECOM School of Pharmacy will accept Saint Francis students into the professional pharmacy curriculum who meet the criteria listed below:
- Pursue a B.S. of Biology or Chemistry in Phase I of the “3+3/ 3+4” B.S./Pharm.D. Pharmacy Program, as described in the Saint Francis University Catalog. Earn a minimum GPA of 3.4 in Phase I of the program. No course will be accepted for transfer with a grade lower than “C”. At least 75% of the degree requirements must be completed during Phase I, as agreed upon by the pre-medicine coordinator.
- Earn a GPA of 3.2 or higher for science and mathematics courses.
- Must maintain full-time status while at Saint Francis and complete the program in the specified time frame.
- Submit two letters of recommendation. One of these letters MUST be from the student’s academic advisor at Saint Francis. The letter will address the personal growth of the student during Phase I of the program, as well as the student’s maturity, responsibility, and desire to become a pharmacist.
- Demonstrate leadership potential and commitment to the pharmacy profession.
- Submit a completed primary application for admission to PharmCAS and a secondary application to the LECOM School of Pharmacy.
- The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree will be conferred on “3+3/3+4” students after successful completion of all Saint Francis requirements and year one of Phase II of the Program.
Additional stipulations for matriculation are set forth in the articulation agreement between Saint Francis University and LECOM.

Student Learning Outcomes:
This will vary depending on the student’s major. Students in the Biology, Pre-Medicine program will achieve the following learning outcomes:
- Employ the scientific method, including the use of discipline-specific techniques, to discover and validate biological knowledge.
- Demonstrate scientific literacy through reading, writing, presenting, and discussing research.
- Demonstrate knowledge of how atoms and molecules interact to permit the function of living systems, and how cells sense, control, and respond to stimuli in their environments.
- Demonstrate knowledge of molecular genetics and how this leads to the expression and inheritance of traits.
- Explain how organisms reproduce and develop, how their anatomical structure permits function, how they maintain internal conditions, and how they sense and respond to external stimuli, across the full range of biological diversity.
- Describe how evolution by natural selection explains the unity and diversity of life on earth, and articulate how organisms interact at the population, community, and ecosystem levels.
Students in the Chemistry, LECOM Pre-Pharmacy program will achieve the following learning outcomes:
- Ability to use and read chemical formulas, nomenclature and chemical reactions and to do calculations involving stoichiometry, mixtures, solutions, solubility, and chemical equilibrium
- Ability to describe and recognize bonding, structure, and stereochemistry and to predict organic reactions, mechanisms, and synthesis
- Ability to apply the laws of thermodynamics to evaluate conditions of chemical equilibrium and direction and rates of chemical reactions
- Ability to describe the chemistry of metallic and nonmetallic elements and their industrial importance and to apply valence bond, molecular orbital theories and group theory in order to understand the properties and chemistry of inorganic complexes
- Ability to read primary sources (peer reviewed literature) and verbally communicate chemical concepts effectively
Estimated Completion Time:
In this “3+4” program, the last 30 credits are not completed at Saint Francis. Instead, courses from a student’s first year at LECOM are transferred back to SFU to complete the requirements for the student’s bachelor’s degree.
3 years at Saint Francis, plus 1 year at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine to complete B.S. Completion of Pharm. D. degree requires a total of three (Erie, PA) or four (Bradenton, FL) years with LECOM.
Capstone Requirement:
In this “3+4” program, the senior capstone requirement is satisfied by successfully completing the first year of their professional program at LECOM in good standing.
Requirements for the Program:
Students pursue an existing B.S. major in Biology or Chemistry at Saint Francis University. Students in the “3+4” track must complete at least 75% of the degree requirements, as agreed upon by the pre-medicine coordinator.
