PT 621 - Patient Management 4 - Pediatrics (2 credits) This course will explore typical and atypical development as it relates to the physical therapy management of pediatric patients. In this course, students will learn how to effectively plan and manage care for children from birth through adolescence. The course will cover a variety of medical conditions specific to the pediatric population while addressing the unique settings of service delivery for children. Emphasis will be on evidence -based practice and family centered care concepts. Childhood developmental changes in all systems and their relationship to functional movement will be explored. The Guide to Physical Therapist Practice will provide the framework for patient management. This course consists of a lecture and laboratory component. The laboratory component will enable students to develop skill in patient examination and therapeutic interventions through case studies as well as simulated and actual patient experiences. Fall.
