AVI 322 - Air Traffic Control and Airspace

(3 credits)
This course provides students with comprehensive knowledge of air traffic control systems, airspace structure, and aviation navigation procedures. Students will examine the National Airspace System (NAS), air traffic control operations, communication procedures, and navigation techniques used in modern aviation. The course covers controlled and uncontrolled airspace classifications, air traffic control facilities and their functions, radar systems, approach and departure procedures, and international airspace coordination. Topics include flight planning procedures, air traffic flow management, separation standards, emergency procedures, and the integration of unmanned aircraft systems into controlled airspace. Students will learn to interpret aeronautical charts, understand ATC communications, and analyze air traffic control decision-making processes.  Prerequisites: AVI 101 Introduction to the Aviation Industry  and AVI 220 Aviation Weather
